›Open Systems‹
This exhibition investigates some of the themes and issues that arose during a seminal period in contemporary art from the mid-1960s through the 1970s. Featuring the work of around thirty international artists the exhibition traces a particular aspect of the period, as artists built upon the structures and systems of Fluxus, Neo-Concretism, Minimalism and Conceptualism, to show us new and more fluid ways of thinking about the self, the world and the work of art.

August Strindberg (1849-1912) is known as a prolific writer of novels and plays but he was also an extremely radical painter for his time. This is the first major UK exhibition to explore largely unseen paintings and photographs by this extraordinarily gifted man.

Course

›Photography at the Cinema‹
Photography and cinema have had perhaps the richest kinship of all the arts. They have also been shaped by their profound differences. This eight-week course examines the ever-changing dialogue between the two. Arranged thematically, it considers the depiction of photographers in cinema, the freeze-frame, filmic and photographic editing, photographers working on film sets, cinema's influence on contemporary photographic art and the photograph as a source of inspiration for cinema.
